Central historical archives

The European Parliament maintains and makes available to the public its historical archives of material relating to its legislative and political activity from 1952 until the 6th parliamentary term (2004-2009).

Furthermore, most documents have been digitised and can be consulted at the Archive and Documentation Centre (CARDOC) in Luxembourg [see link to ‘Description of the main collections’].

All non-confidential documents can also be obtained by contacting the Archive and Documentation Centre.

Information reports on the European Parliament’s historical archives

Article 9(2) of Regulation No 354/83 as amended by Regulation No 1700/2003 made provision for each institution to publish information annually on its historical archiving activities. The CARDOC Unit has been publishing these reports since 2005.

Each report follows an outline common to all the institutions, drawn up by the Interinstitutional Group of European Community Archivists.
