Aviation security measures On 27 January the TRAN Committee had a general debate on aviation security with the European Commission in view of recent developments like the failed attempt to attack an airplane on its way to the US, the phasing out of the ban on liquids and the use of body scanners to screen passengers on airports.
Reporting formalities for ships On 27 January, the Rapporteur, Dirk Sterckx, presented his draft report including 27 amendments to the Commission's proposal. These seek to ensure that procedures are not only simplified but harmonised and to promote cooperation between transport, customs, public health and safety organisations.
Trans-European transport network: Community Guidelines On 25 January, the Rapporteur, Brian Simpson, presented his draft report on the recast of the Community guidelines for the development of the network. As the proposal contains a straightforward codification of the existing texts, the Rapporteur expects to obtain an agreement with the Council at first reading.
Exchange of views with the Swedish and Spanish Presidencies The Committee looked back over the last six months during an exchange of views with representatives of the Swedish Presidency on 26 January. The following day, the Spanish Presidency presented its priorities in the fields of transport and tourism.
