A ne pas manquer
New Commission hearing 3 February (Brussels): Following the withdrawal of Rumiana Jeleva, DEVE puts questions to Kristalina Georgieva, the new Bulgarian candidate for the job of humanitarian aid commissioner. Then parliament can vote on the commission as a whole.
Spanish presidency visits DEVE 4 February (Brussels): Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Miguel Angel Moratinos, and Secretary of State for International Cooperation Soraya Rodríguez come to DEVE to exchange views with MEPs on the presidency's top priorities. Also on the agenda: the EP's draft recommendations to the council for the 65th UN general assembly and the proposal to amend the instrument (ICI+) for financing cooperation with industrialised countries.
First DEVE meeting 2010 25 January (Brussels): The next DEVE meeting looks at the Cotonou agreement, Haiti (with Commissioner de Gucht) and the situation of trade union rights in Colombia, with guest speakers representing trade unions, the Colombian government and the ILO.
ACP bureau and committees 26-28 January (Brussels): The ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly brings together MPs from four continents to work together on development issues. The next Bureau meeting sets the agenda for the March plenary in Tenerife, while the standing committees address free and independent media, climate change and the global crisis. The crisis in Haiti is also set to dominate the debates.

Présentation et compétences
Cette commission est compétente pour les questions ayant trait: 1. à la promotion, à la mise en œuvre et au contrôle de la politique du développement et de la coopération de l'Union européenne, y compris: - le dialogue politique avec les pays en voie de développement, tant au niveau bilatéral que dans le cadre des organisations et instances interparlementaires internationales pertinentes,
- l'aide aux pays en voie de développement et les accords de coopération avec ceux-ci,
- a promotion des valeurs démocratiques, de la bonne gouvernance et des droits de l'homme dans les pays en voie de développement;
2. aux questions relevant de l'accord de partenariat ACP-UE et des relations avec les instances compétentes; 3. à la participation du Parlement à des missions d'observation électorale, le cas échéant en coopération avec d'autres commissions et délégations pertinentes. La commission assure la coordination des travaux des délégations interparlementaires et ad hoc relevant de ses attributions.
