Presentation of Latvian presidency programme, public hearing on Waste directive

During the 21 January committee meeting Mr Kaspars Gerhards Minister of Environment and Regional Development will present the Latvian Presidency's programme in the area of environment while Mr Guntis Belēvičs Minister of Health will exchange of views with ENVI members in the area of health.
A public hearing in preparation for the legislative report on the Waste directive will also take place in committee time on the 22 January.

   
GMOs cultivation - committee vote on the outcome of negotiations with Council

The outcome of the negotiations with the Council on the possibility for Members States to restrict or prohibit the cultivation of GMOs in their territory is to be voted during an extraordinary committee meeting in Strasbourg on Wednesday 17 December between 15.30-16.00 in meeting room Winston Churchill (WIC) 200.
The vote in Plenary is scheduled for January 2015.

   
Delegation to the UN Climate Conference COP 20, Lima

The 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 10th session of the Meeting of the Parties (CMP) to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol is taking place from 1 to 12 December in Lima, Peru.
A 12-strong delegation of MEPs will join the negotiations between 8-12 December, led by ENVI chairman Giovanni La Via (EPP). Members of the delegation are: Jo Leinen (S&D) – delegation vice-president; Jerzy Buzek (EPP); Karl-Heinz Florenz (EPP); Elisabetta Gardini (EPP,); Seb Dance (S&D); Kathleen Van Brempt (S&D); Ian Duncan (ECR); Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy (ALDE); Merja Kyllonen (GUE/NGL); Bas Eickhout (Greens/EFA); and Valentinas Mazuronis (EFDD). Talks should enable global partners to reach an ambitious climate agreement in Paris in 2015, so as to keep the world on track for a sub-2°C climate warming scenario.

   
Public Hearing on EU air quality policy: Reducing national emissions beyond 2020

A Public Hearing  on EU air quality policy: Reducing national emissions beyond 2020 was be held on 4 December. The hearing is part of the preparation of the ENVI report on the proposed revision of the National Emission Ceilings Directive. Experts addressed in two panels health and environmental issues in air quality control as well as specific aspects of different economic sectors and geographical regions.

A 12-strong delegation of MEPs will take part in the UN climate conference in Lima, Peru, from Monday to Friday. The 20th Conference of Parties (COP20) aims to set out the structure of a global and binding climate agreement to be concluded in Paris in 2015. In a resolution voted last month, the European Parliament reiterated the EU commitment to getting on track for a below 2°C climate warming scenario, and pledged to step up European contributions to the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Draft plans to encourage food innovation via a new, simplified authorization procedure for novel foods were approved by the Environment Committee on Monday. MEPs nonetheless amended the text and proposed a moratorium on the use of nanomaterials in food, based on the precautionary principle. They also added provisions for compulsory labelling of cloned food products.

b)    veterinærlovgivning om beskyttelse mod sundhedsrisici for mennesker; sundhedskontrol af fødevarer og fødevareproduktionssystemer
c)    Den Europæiske Fødevaresikkerhedsautoritet og Det Europæiske Fødevare- og Veterinærkontor.

Velkommen til webstedet for Udvalget om Miljø, Folkesundhed og Fødevaresikkerhed (ENVI).
 
ENVI er med sine 69 medlemmer Europa-Parlamentets største udvalg i lovgivningsmæssig henseende.
 
ENVI's medlemmer arbejder aktivt på at forbedre fødevareinformationen til forbrugerne, navnlig gennem fastsættelse af forskrifter om mærkning og markedsføring af produkter. For ENVI er det magtpåliggende at foreslå europæiske løsninger på folkesundhedsspørgsmål.
 
Udvalget er desuden ansvarligt for en lang række politikområder, herunder luft- og vandforurening, affaldshåndtering og beskyttelse af biologisk mangfoldighed, for blot at nævne nogle få. Det ligger medlemmerne meget på sinde at fremme et ressourceeffektivt og bæredygtigt Europa.
 
Bekæmpelse af klimaændringer er et centralt element i udvalgets arbejde. Det vil stå højt på dagsordenen allerede tidligt i denne valgperiode i betragtning af de kommende klimatopmøder, som vil få afgørende betydning for vedtagelsen af en international klimaaftale, som forventes indgået i 2015.  Dyrkningen af GMO'er og medlemsstaternes mulige begrænsning af eller forbud mod disse vil være et andet fokusområde i begyndelsen af denne valgperiode.
