The next meeting of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety is taking place on Monday 13 October between 15.00-18.30 in Brussels in meeting room Jozsef Antall (JAN) 4Q2 .
 
The ENVI meeting foreseen for the 6 October 2014 is cancelled due to its date/time overlapping with the Commissioners-designate hearings.
 
The next workshop on Novel foods organised by Policy Department A will take place on Tuesday 7 October 2014 between 12.15-14.30 in meeting room Altiero Spinelli (ASP) A1E-2.

Workshop on Novel foods

In preparation for the revision of the EU novel food regulation a workshop will take place on 7 October 2014 between 12.15-14.30 in meeting room Altiero Sponelli (A1E-2)
The workshop will focus on the state of play in novel foods in the EU, member states experiences with novel food applications, the importance of the novel foods market in the EU from industry and from consumer perspective.

Ebola crisis, GMO cultivation, circular economy, 2015 budget

During the meeting of the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety on the 3rd of September, members held exchange of views with European Commissioners Tonio Borg and Janez Potočnik on the Ebola crisis in West-Africa and the new circular economy package of proposals.
The Italian Presidency presented the Council position on legislation allowing Member States to restrict or prohibit the cultivation of GMOs on their territory.
The Committee also adopted its opinion on the 2015 budget.

Le priorità della Presidenza italiana del Consiglio sono state illustrate alle varie commissioni parlamentari dai ministri italiani in una serie di riunioni tenutesi a luglio e a settembre.

Attribuzioni delle commissioni parlamentari permanenti
 
Commissione competente per:
1.    la politica dell'ambiente e le misure per la sua tutela concernenti, in particolare:
a)    l'inquinamento dell'aria, del suolo e delle acque, la gestione e il riciclaggio dei rifiuti, le sostanze e i preparati pericolosi, i livelli di rumore, il cambiamento climatico, la tutela della biodiversità,
b)    lo sviluppo sostenibile,
c)    le misure e gli accordi internazionali e regionali per la protezione dell'ambiente,
d)    la riparazione del danno ambientale,
e)    la protezione civile,
f)    l'Agenzia europea dell'ambiente,
g)    l'Agenzia europea per le sostanze chimiche;
 
2.    la sanità pubblica, in particolare:
a)    i programmi e le azioni specifiche nel settore della sanità pubblica,
b)    i prodotti farmaceutici e cosmetici,
c)    gli aspetti sanitari del bioterrorismo,
d)    l'Agenzia europea per i medicinali e il Centro europeo per la prevenzione e il controllo delle malattie;
 
3.    le questioni riguardanti la sicurezza alimentare, in particolare:
a)    l'etichettatura e la sicurezza dei prodotti alimentari,
b)    la legislazione veterinaria concernente la protezione contro i rischi per la salute umana; i controlli sanitari dei prodotti alimentari e dei sistemi di produzione alimentare,
c)    l'Autorità europea per la sicurezza alimentare e l'Ufficio alimentare e veterinario europeo.
