Competition rules and agriculture: debate with Commissioners Vestager and Hogan

Commissioners responsible for competition, Margrethe Vestager, and agriculture, Phil Hogan will debate draft Commission competition guidelines for the agriculture sector with AGRI Members in an extraordinary Committee meeting in Strasbourg on 8 June. As part of the CAP reform the Parliament had asked the Commission to establish such guidelines for the implementation of competition rules to agriculture with a view to ensuring a uniform application of these rules across Member States.The AGRI Committee has contributed in written to the public consultation on these guidelines.

Commissioner Hogan visits AGRI as part of structured dialogue

Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan was invited for an exchange of views with the AGRI Committee Members in the context of the so-called "structured dialogue" foreseen in the Framework Agreement on relations between the European Parliament and the Commission. The topics for discussion included the2015 Commission Work Programme and the priorities for 2016 (Thursday 28 May at 11.00).

Brazilian Agriculture Minister debates with AGRI Members

Brazilian Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Kátia Abreu  addressed Members ofthe AGRI Committee on the occasion of her first official visit to the European Parliament since taking office on 1 January 2015. Brazil is one of the EU's strategic partners and one of the world's biggest agricultural powers. The Minister debated with Members on experiences and best practices in agriculture and rural development and in particular, in setting and implementing sustainable policies (Tuesday 26 May at 15.00h).

Agriculture priorities of the Latvian Presidency

Latvian Agriculture Minister Jānis Dūklavs presented the priorities of the EU Presidency for the first half of 2015 during the AGRI meeting of 21 January at 15.00 (room JAN 4Q1 Brussels). This was also an opportunity for the Presidency and AGRI Members to react to the Commission's draft work programme for 2015 which recommended to the co-legislators to conclude negotiations on the organic farming legislation within 6 months and to put on hold the school schemes proposal pending a new evaluation.

Transmissible animal diseases: MEPs and ministers strike informal deal

Measures to prevent and treat animal diseases such as avian flu or African swine fever were informally agreed by MEPs, the Latvian Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the European Commission on Monday. The draft EU law, on diseases that are transmissible among animals and potentially to humans too, will merge and update many scattered items of old legislation, so as to help prevent and halt new outbreaks and keep pace with scientific progress. Výbor pro zemědělství a rozvoj venkova (AGRI) je příslušný pro kontrolu práce Evropské komise v oblasti zemědělské politiky. Tato kontrola spočívá především v přípravě zpráv o legislativních návrzích spadajících do postupu spolurozhodování mezi Parlamentem a Radou, aby byly posléze přijaty na plenárním zasedání.
