On 13 October, the ENVI Committee will vote the draft report on GMOs. The Rapporteur suggests to reject the Commission proposal since among other reasons: 1) its adoption was not preceded by an impact assessment, 2) considering the (possibly negative) consequences of the proposal for the functioning of the Internal Market and the competitiveness of the Union's agricultural sector and 3) the serious doubts in relation to the implementation of the proposal.

This report summarises the presentations and discussions of the Workshop on "The Paediatric Regulation: Are children still missing out on potentially life-saving treatments?" held at the European Parliament in Brussels, on Tuesday 16 June 2015. The aim of the workshop was to discuss the main challenges and future perspectives related to the treatment of children in Europe in view of a potential future revision of the Paediatric Regulation.

Towards a new international climate agreement in Paris

On 23 September, the ENVI Committee voted the above draft report. The 21st session of the Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP21) will be organised from 30.11 to 11.12.2015 in Paris.The EP decided to draw up an own-initiative report entitled "Towards a new international climate agreement in Paris" based on the Commission Communication tackling global climate change beyond 2020, which will constitute the mandate of the 15 MEPs attending COP21 as part of the EU delegation.

Ozone secretariat

On 23 September, the ENVI Committee held an exchange of views with Ms Tina Birmpili, Executive Secretary of the Secretariat for the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and for the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. The exchange of views takes place in the context of the preparation for the UNFCCC COP21 taking place in Paris in December 2015.

Car emissions: MEPs push for “real-life” test protocol

The environment committee on Wednesday adopted an update of EU car emission rules, setting limits on certain pollutants including NOx. They call for a new, real-life, emissions test procedure to be enforced by 2017. They also want fuel consumption meter and gear-change indicators fitted to all new cars by 2019. (Læs mere)


COP 21: environment MEPs adopt mandate for Paris climate talks

The environment committee said on Wednesday that Parliament's delegation to the COP 21 climate talks in Paris must call for a 40% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, a 40% energy-efficiency target and a binding 30% target for renewable energy. (Læs mere)


MEPs discuss Volkswagen emission "defeat devices" with EU Commission

During a first debate the state of play on Volkswagen's emission "defeat devices" with the European Commission in the Environment Committee, many MEPs highlighted the need to speed up the introduction of automotive test procedures that better reflect vehicle emissions in real driving conditions, while others compared the EU's decentralized “type-approval” system unfavourably with the US one. Environment MEPs vote to curb off-road engine pollution

Draft rules to cut emissions of major air pollutants from non-road mobile machinery (NRMM), ranging from lawn mowers to bulldozers, tractors and inland waterway vessels, were backed by Environment Committee MEPs on Tuesday. NRMM engines account for about 15% of all NOx and 5% of particulate emissions in the EU. (Læs mere)

ENVI er med sine 69 medlemmer Europa-Parlamentets største udvalg i lovgivningsmæssig henseende.

ENVI's medlemmer arbejder aktivt på at forbedre fødevareinformationen til forbrugerne, navnlig gennem fastsættelse af forskrifter om mærkning og markedsføring af produkter. For ENVI er det magtpåliggende at foreslå europæiske løsninger på folkesundhedsspørgsmål.
