Public Hearing with D.Nouy, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the ECB

On Tuesday, 31 March from 15:00-16:30 ECON will hold a public hearing with the Chair of the Supervisory Board of the ECB, Ms Danièle Nouy. This is the first public hearing in 2015 in the framework of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM). At this occasion, Ms Nouy will present the ECB's first Annual Report on the SSM.

On 31 March ECON Members are due to vote on the draft report "Indices used as benchmarks in financial instruments and financial contracts" (Rapporteur: C. van Nieuwenhuizen, ALDE)

BUDG/ECON - European Fund for Strategic Investments: joint committee debate - 26.03.2015

The approximately 1400 amendments tabled to the report on the recently proposed European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) will be discussed during the joint meeting of the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs on 26.03.15. According to the proposal, the EFSI is to be backed by a guarantee of 21 billion euro and will be accompanied by the establishment of a European Investment Advisory Hub and a European Investment Project Pipeline.

Monetary Dialogue with M.Draghi, President of the ECB, on 23 March

On Monday, 23 March, from 15:00 to 17:00, ECON will welcome ECB's President Mario Draghi for the first Monetary Dialogue of this year. President Draghi will present the ECB's perspective on economic and monetary developments before entering in a discussion with Members, which will also cover two specific issues:
•    ECB Quantitative Easing (QE): lessons drawn from QE experiences carried out by other major central banks
•    Interrelation between financial stability and monetary policy at the current juncture

Economic affairs MEPs target conflicts of interest in benchmark setting

A draft EU law to make the benchmarks used to price EU citizens’ mortgages, loans and bonds more trustworthy was backed by the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee on Tuesday. The text (lead MEP Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, ALDE, NL) aims to clean up the benchmark-setting process, by curbing conflicts of interest like those that led to the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) rigging scandals of recent years. Juncker investment plan must complement other EU tools, say MEPs

The European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) must focus on currently underfunded areas, so as to complement, not duplicate, other EU budget tools, said MEPs at Monday’s expert hearing on the Juncker investment plan proposals.
