On 27 January the ECON and LIBE committees will be reconsulted under an early 2nd reading; procedure on the outcome of the trilogue negotiations on the "Prevention of the use of the financial system for the purpose of money laundering and terrorist financing" (AMLD; rapporteurs: Krišjānis Kariņš (PPE) for ECON and Judith Sargentini(Verts/ALE) for LIBE), and on the "Information accompanying transfers of funds Regulation" (FTR; rapporteurs: Peter Simon (S&D) for ECON and Timothy Kirkhope (ECR) for LIBE.

The review of the economic governance framework: stocktaking and challenges

German Finance Minister W.Schäuble and Italian Minister ofEconomy and Finances P.C.Padoan will appear in ECON for an exchange of views within the context of the preparation of the INI report on "The review of the economic governance framework; stocktaking and challenges" (rapporteur: P. Berès). This event will be followed by another ("in camera") exchange of views on the same subject and the same day with P. Thomssen, Director of the European Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund.

Capping card payment fees: economic affairs MEPs back deal with Council

The fees that banks charge retailers for processing shoppers’ payments would be capped under draft EU rules endorsed by Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs in a vote on Tuesday. The vote confirms an informal deal struck with the Council in December. The cap would apply to both cross-border and domestic card-based payments and should cut costs for card users. Money laundering: company owner lists to fight tax crime and terrorist financing

The ultimate owners of companies will have to be listed in central registers in EU countries, open both to the authorities and to people with a "legitimate interest", such as journalists, under a Parliament/Council deal endorsed by the Economic and Monetary Affairs and Civil Liberties committees on Tuesday. The new anti-money laundering directive aims to help to fight money laundering, tax crimes and terrorist financing. New rules to make it easier to trace transfers of funds were also approved. Schäuble: “Solidarität darf notwendige nationale Entscheidungen nicht ersetzen”.

Die Solidarität in der EU sollte nicht die notwendigen nationalen Entscheidungen in Ländern mit wirtschaftlichen Problemen ersetzen, sagte Bundesfinanzminister Wolfgang Schäuble am Dienstag vor im ECON-Ausschuss während einer Debatte zur Überprüfung des Rahmens für die wirtschaftspolitische Steuerung. Sein italienischer Amtskollege Pier Carlo Padoan wies Kritik an Maßnahmen zum Defizitabbau in Italien entschieden zurück und betonte die Notwendigkeit, Reformen besser zu koordinieren. Juncker Plan will create 1.3 million jobs, Katainen tells economic affairs MEPs

The European Commission calculates that the Juncker Plan for a European Strategic Investments Fund will create 1.3 million jobs, said Commissioner for Growth and Jobs Jyrki Katainen in a debate with Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee MEPs on Monday. If projects incur losses, the public share of their funding will take the first blow. "That's why they are interesting for private investors", he said. (Fortsetzung lesen)
