Election of the 4th Vice-Chair

Following the meeting of 7 July 2014, Members of the FEMM Committee will now vote for the fourth Vice-Chair in the next Committee meeting on 22 July 2014. This will complete the constitutive phase of the Bureau.

   
General budget of the European Union for the financial year 2015

Following the adoption of the draft budget by the Commission on 11 June 2014, FEMM committee will discuss the proposals of its draftsperson on the remarks and figures of next year's budget. Members are also invited to table their budgetary amendments by 24 July 2014.

Exchange of views with the Italian Presidency of the Council

Traditionally, the incoming Presidency presents its priorities and programme regarding the committee's area of responsibility. FEMM members will have the opportunity to discuss and exchange their views about the Presidency's proposals on women's rights and gender equality. The Italian Presidency runs until the end of December 2014.
 

   
Appointment of Commissioner Reicherts

The FEMM, LIBE and JURI Committees held an exchange of views with Ms Martine REICHERTS on 14.07.14 in Strasbourg. Ms REICHERTS has been designated for the portfolio of Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship. The European Parliament has approved Ms REICHERTS' appointment as Commissioner during its plenary sitting of 16.07.14. Her mandate is expected to last until the end of October, when a new Commission is to be set up.

Four candidate EU Commissioners, nominated to replace those who left to become MEPs, were given committee hearings on Monday. The four, who if confirmed by the full House will serve for the rest of the Commission’s current term, are Jyrki Katainen (Finland), Ferdinando Nelli Feroci (Italy) Martine Reicherts (Luxembourg) and Jacek Dominik (Poland).

After the election of a President, Vice-Presidents and Quaestors of the European Parliament in Strasbourg last week, parliamentary committees convened on Monday in Brussels to elect chairpersons and their deputies for next two and a half years.
