Hearings


A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. The IMCO and JURI committees held jointly a public hearing with experts and stakeholders on contractual relations and consumer remedies in the digital sphere. The first part of the joint hearing was focus on contracts for the supply of digital content. The second part held by the Internal Market Committee only focused on contracts for the online sales of goods. (Read more)

15-03-2016 - The revision of the Firearms Directive

A public hearing on the Firearms Directive regarding the control of the acquisition and possession of weapons will be held on 15 March at 15.00. The hearing with experts will focus on the scope and exceptions of the Directive, on the caterogies of firearms and on the EU fireamrs rules and control of illicit use and trafficking. (Read more)

This public hearing informed IMCO's work on the report of Ms Comi on the same subject which is drafted in response to the Commission's Upgrading the Single Market Strategy. Discussions which will be devoted to "creating more opportunities for consumers, professionals and businesses, and boosting enforcement" and to “encouraging and enabling the modernisation and innovation that Europe needs”. On 14 January, IMCO organised a public hearing in order to discuss with experts non-tariff barriers (NTBs) to trade in the internal market. With the participation of eight experts and of representatives of the Dutch Council Presidency and the Commission, the hearing focused on what are the remaining NTBs - both high-level and sector-specific - and how to address them. This hearing will provide an input to the own-initiative report on non-tariff barriers in the single market (D. Dalton / ECR). (Read more)

IMCO and INTA Committee are organising a Joint Public Hearing on the 24th of February from 10h30 to 12h30. There will be two panels; the first "The impact of TTIP on standardisation and consumer protection standards" will focus on building trust. The second panel, "Creating the common engine for growth" will focus on the EU-US automotive sector and on the cooperation in the field of motor vehicles. (Read more)

The first session was focus on the 28 Member States’ customs sanctioning systems. The second session discussed the impact of the lack of an EU legal framework on infringements and sanctions on the functioning of the single market and on economic operators. The best ways to address the issue and reduce the amount of infringements in the Customs Union was also discusssed. (Read more)
