Iskra Mihaylova elected Chair of the Committee on Regional Development
Iskra Mihaylova is the new Chair of the Committee on Regional Development, elected by acclamation on 7 July 2014. During its Constitutive meeting, the Committee has also elected its Vice-Chairs Younous Omarjee, Stanislav Polčák, Joachim Zeller and Andrea Cozzolino. Together. the Chair and Vice-Chairs make up the Bureau of the Committee, elected for a two-and-a-half year term. The first meeting of the Committee on Regional Development will take place on 23rd July 2014.
The Committee on Regional Development will meet on 7th July 2014 to hold its Constituent meeting following the election of its Members by the European Parliament on 3rd July 2014. During this meeting, the Committee will elect its Bureau, consisting of a Chair and up to four Vice-Chairs, for two-and-a-half year term.
After the election of a President, Vice-Presidents and Quaestors of the European Parliament in Strasbourg last week, parliamentary committees convened on Monday in Brussels to elect chairpersons and their deputies for next two and a half years.
Powers and responsibilities
Committee responsible for:
the operation and development of the Union’s regional development and cohesion policy, as established in the Treaties;
the European Regional Development Fund, the Cohesion Fund and the other instruments of the Union’s regional policy;
assessment of the impact of other Union policies on economic and social cohesion;
coordination of the Union’s structural instruments;
the urban dimension of the cohesion policy;
outermost regions and islands as well as trans-frontier and interregional cooperation;
relations with the Committee of the Regions, interregional cooperation organisations and local and regional authorities.
