Next REGI meeting - 6 October 2014

The next meeting of the Committee on Regional Development will take place on Monday 6 October 2014 from 15:45 to 17:15 in the European Parliament's Hemicycle room.
It will be a joint meeting of the REGI Committee and the Committee of the Region's Commission on Territorial Cohesion Policy (COTER) co-chaired by the REGI Chair Ms Iskra Mihaylova and the COTER Chair Mr Marek Woźniak. There will be an intervention presented by Mr Walter Deffaa, Director-General for Regional and Urban Policy at the European Commission. The meeting will be followed by the debate with the audience.
The REGI-COTER joint meeting will be preceded by the Opening Session of the Open Days 2014 starting at 14:30 – for more information about the Open Days 2014 please see the announcement below on this page.  
Please note that the half a day REGI meeting planned on 7 October had to be cancelled due to the Hearing of Commissioner-designate Frans Timmermans.

Hearing of the Commissioner-designate for Regional Policy, Mrs Corina Creţu

In the context of the approval of the new European Commission, the Committee on Regional Development (REGI) will hold a hearing of the Commissioner-designate for Regional Policy, Mrs Corina Creţu (nominated by Romania).
The hearing will take place on Wednesday 1 October 2014 from 9:00 to 12:00 in Brussels in European Parliament's meeting room József Antall (JAN) 2Q2 and will be web-streamed live.

Exchange of views with Italian Presidency and Commissioner Hahn

The Members of the REGI Committee held on Monday 22 September 2014 an Exchange of views with Mr Graziano Delrio, State Secretary to the Prime Minister, on the priorities of the Italian Presidency of the Council in the Cohesion Policy and with Mr Johannes Hahn, Commissioner on Regional Policy.

Powers and responsibilities
Committee responsible for:
  1. the operation and development of the Union’s regional development and cohesion policy, as established in the Treaties;
  2. the European Regional Development Fund, the Cohesion Fund and the other instruments of the Union’s regional policy;
  3. assessment of the impact of other Union policies on economic and social cohesion;
  4. coordination of the Union’s structural instruments;
  5. the urban dimension of the cohesion policy;
  6. outermost regions and islands as well as trans-frontier and interregional cooperation;
  7. relations with the Committee of the Regions, interregional cooperation organisations and local and regional authorities.
