Hearings


A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. The CULT Committee will hold a public hearing on 15.03.16 from 15:00-17:30. The purpose of the hearing is to debate issues relating to immigration and the subsequent integration of newcomers through education and culture. Ms Kashetu Kyenge, LIBE Committee rapporteur on ‘The situation in the Mediterranean and need for a holistic approach to migration’, will also present her draft report. (Read more)

The main purpose of the hearing was to debate issues relating to cultural diversity in Europe, with particular emphasis on intercultural dialogue and the role of education in paving the way to mutual understanding. In times of upheaval and misunderstanding, the promotion of respect and dialogue between peoples is indispensable for social cohesion, the vitality of civil society and peace. (Read more)

Destruction and trafficking of cultural heritage

The Committee on Culture and Education held a public hearing on ‘Destruction and trafficking of cultural heritage’ on Monday, 13 July 2015 in Brussels. Representatives from academic institutes, as well as from UNESCO, the International Criminal Court (ICC), INTERPOL and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) were invited to take part in the debate.
