A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. On this page you will find all the available information relating to committee hearings, including programmes and contributions from speakers.

On 21 February, the EMPL Committee will hold a public hearing on the Commission proposal on work-life balance for parents and carers, which will feed into the preparation of the related legislative draft report by rapporteur David Casa (EPP, MT). The Commission proposal was presented in the overall framework of the European Pillar of Social Rights and aims to address women’s underrepresentation in the labour market through higher minimum standards for parental, paternity and carer’s leave.
