A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. 03-12-2019 - Can we save the WTO Appellate Body?

INTA 20-11-2019 - 16:45
Initials WTO

The WTO Appellate Body, which is part of the WTO dispute settlement, is in major crisis. On 10 December 2019, it will no longer be able to function, as the mandates of two of its three remaining members, out of seven, will expire. This can have major implications for the multilateral trading system.

Together with the former EU member on the Appellate body, Professor Peter Van den Bossche, DG TRADE Director-General Sabine Weyand and Chad Bown from the Peterson Institute, INTA will discuss the reasons behind the crisis and if there are ways to save the WTO Appellate Body.
