A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. On 3 December 2019, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) will hold a public hearing entitled "Towards a common EU strategy to fight corruption and organized crime – strengthening instruments and enhancing cooperation between relevant actors"

The hearing will bring together institutional representatives, prosecutors, academics and civil society representatives in order to discuss the necessity to develop a comprehensive strategy and approach to fight corruption and organized crime in the EU, which will further improve cross-border cooperation, tackle existing gaps in the fight against organized crime and corruption, implement better supervision and develop a comprehensive policy to prevent future loopholes.
