Hearings


A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. On this page you will find all the available information relating to committee hearings, including programmes and contributions from speakers.

The hearing will be organised in 2 panel discussions with invited experts. The first panel of experts will exchange views on "Tackling administrative and regulatory barriers in the Services market" with a focus on whether there is a case for the Services e-card, whether COM proposal is the appropriate measure to tackle persisting problems, and whether it will lower the existing barriers. The second panel will provide a more detailed and critical look on the Services e-card proposal. (Read more)

20-06-2017 - Hearing of Commissioner-designate Ms Mariya Gabriel

On 20 June ITRE and CULT will hold the hearing of Commissioner-designate Gabriel, who was nominated by the European Commission to take over the responsibility for the Digital Economy and Society portfolio. Associated Committees are IMCO, JURI and LIBE. ITRE and CULT Coordinators will then meet on Wednesday 21 June to assess the hearing so that Mr Buzek, ITRE Chair, and Ms Kammerevert, CULT Chair, can inform the President of Parliament in view of a decision during the July plenary. On 21 March, IMCO will hold a public hearing on the proposed directive establishing a European Electronic Communications Code (ITRE lead Committeee, IMCO associated Committee with Dita Charanzova, ALDE, as rapporteur). The hearing will focus on the main areas under IMCO competence and will be divided into two Panels: one focusing on new approaches to Universal Service Obligation, and the other one on end-user rights in the electronic communications sector. IMCO held a public hearing on European Standards for the 21st Century. The hearing consisted of two panels. Panel one was focus on innovative, interconnected and interoperable standards for the future and panel two wasl focus on how to make standards serve a modern inclusive society. European Youth Hearing in IMCO

Thousands of young people took part in the European Youth Event (#EYE2016) at the EP in Strasbourg last May with the aim of producing ideas for Europe’s future. Former EYE2016 participants presented some of the most impactful ideas collected and exchanged views with MEPs, with the aim of having an impact on the future agenda of the EU and make positive change. The topics for the IMCO committee meeting covered consumer protection, collaborative online economy and cibersecurity. (Read more)

The IMCO and JURI committees held jointly a public hearing with experts and stakeholders on contractual relations and consumer remedies in the digital sphere. The first part of the joint hearing was focus on contracts for the supply of digital content. The second part held by the Internal Market Committee only focused on contracts for the online sales of goods. (Read more)
