Hearings


A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. Landing obligation is a long-standing policy goal of the EU Common Fisheries Policy that requires fishers to bring all catch ashore eliminating discards at sea. The policy has been phased in gradually over the years and is fully implemented starting this year, 2019. The speakers’ profiles combine first-hand industry expertise with scientific analysis. On 26 September 2018, representatives from 18 Mediterranean and Black Sea countries as well as the EU signed in Malta a Ministerial Declaration aimed at implementing a Regional Action Plan for Small-Scale Fisheries in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. (Read more)

On Wednesday 20 June 2018, PECH Committee is organising a public hearing in order to discuss the achievements since the implementation of the European Maritime Fisheries Fund in 2014. Centred on the fixation of Total Allowable Catches (TACs) on fish stocks, this event will allow Members to listen and ask questions to some representatives of scientific bodies, of fishermen and of the civil society (NGO).
