Hearings


A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. This hearing is part of the drafting of an initiative report by PECH committee (rapporteur: Mrs Thomas) and the likely revision of Regulation (EC) No 1224/2009 establishing a Community control system. On 9 November 2015 from 15.00 to 18.30, PECH Committee will hold a hearing on the new external dimension of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). The first of two panels will conduct discussion on Fisheries Partnership Agreements, with particular focus on evaluation of the benefits for both the local economy and the EU fisheries sector. The second panel will discuss rights and responsibilities of countries in the management of fisheries and fishing capacity. (Read more)

This hearing discussed Multispecies Management Plans for Fisheries - the core long-term management instrument in the Common Fisheries Policy. The first Panel was on putting in place the landing obligation and technical measures through delegated acts in the Baltic Sea and in other waters.
