A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. On 21 March 2018, PECH Committee is organising a public hearing entitled ""Encounters" between science and management in fisheries". Centred on the fixation of Total Allowable Catches (TACs) on fish stocks, this event will allow Members to listen and ask questions to some representatives of scientific bodies, of fishermen and of the civil society (NGO).

These invited experts are to present their contribution to, or their point of view on, the regular TACs setting process, from the requests for scientific advice to the final Council decisions.
