Welcome to the website of the Committee on Fisheries

On this website, you will find different information and documents related to the work of our committee, such as meeting agendas and documents, our monthly newsletter and contributions by stakeholders and experts to the committee's public hearings. Regularly updated highlights on our activities are also displayed on the front page of the site.

The core issue for our committee during this parliamentary term is undoubtedly the ongoing reform of the Common Fisheries Policy, in which the European Parliament is involved with codecision powers as a result of the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. Fisheries policy needs to reconcile a variety of interests with the aim of securing the long term sustainability of the marine environment, fish stocks, fishermen, related industries, and coastal communities. The current policy has many shortcomings which all three institutions involved in the reform are determined to address.

Keeping EU citizens properly informed on the shaping of the political decisions that will be taken on their behalf can only contribute positively to this process and I believe that this website can play a useful role by providing an insight to our daily activities.

Gabriel Mato Adrover,
Chair
