The Japanese Prime Minister Shenzo Abe has set an ambitious goal to conclude the EU-Japan EPA/FTA negotiations by the end of 2015. The EU says that quality must prevail over timing. These key trade negotiations were launched in April 2013 and until now 9 rounds of negotiations have taken place. The EU has concerns over the Japanese Non-Tariff Measures, and Japan has its key interest in lifting the EU's tariffs on imports of cars and electronics. INTA held an exchange of views on the state-of play of the negotiations and our trade relations with Japan's ambassador to the EU, Mr Keiichi Katakami.
