The next ComAGRI meeting will take place on 3 and 4 September:

Meetings are open to the public. However, for security reasons, participants must obtain an access pass in advance. Requests for access passes must be sent 5 working days before the start of the meeting to agri-secretariat@europarl.europa.eu

Overview of the work of the AGRI Committee during the 2009-2014 legislative term

This document gives an overview of the main activities and initiatives of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development during the 7th term of the European Parliament. The beginning of that parliamentary term coincided with the completion of the Lisbon Treaty ratification process and application of the codecision procedure, giving Parliament new powers and remits in the legislative process in this area.

   
Czeslaw Adam Siekierski elected Chair of the Committee on Agriculture

Czeslaw Adam Siekierski (EPP, PL) is the new Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI), elected by acclamation on 7 July 2014.
During its constituent meeting, the Committee has also elected its Vice-Chairs Eric Andrieu (S&D, FR - 1st Vice-Chair), Janusz Wojciechowski (ECR, PL - 2nd Vice-Chair), Clara Eugenia Aguilera Garcia (S&D, ES - 3rd Vice-Chair) and Vasilica Viorica Dăncilă (S&D, RO - 4th Vice-Chair).
Together, the Chair and Vice-Chairs make up the Bureau of the Committee, elected for a two-and-a-half-year term.

After the election of a President, Vice-Presidents and Quaestors of the European Parliament in Strasbourg last week, parliamentary committees convened on Monday in Brussels to elect chairpersons and their deputies for next two and a half years.

Competencias de las comisiones parlamentarias permanentes
 
Comisión competente para:
 
1. el funcionamiento y el desarrollo de la política agrícola común;
2. el desarrollo rural, incluidas las actividades de los instrumentos financieros pertinentes;
3. la legislación en materia:
a) veterinaria y fitosanitaria y de alimentación animal, siempre que tales medidas
no tengan como objetivo la protección frente a los riesgos para la salud humana,
b) de ganadería y bienestar de los animales;
4. la mejora de la calidad de los productos agrícolas;
5. el abastecimiento de materias primas agrícolas;
6. la Oficina Comunitaria de Variedades Vegetales;
7. la silvicultura y la agrosilvicultura.
