EEA-Switzerland: obstacles with regard to the full implementation of the internal market

IMCO Committee will hold a public hearing with experts on obstacles with regard to the full implementation of the internal market in the context of EEA-Switzerland. The debates, which will also focus on the transposition of the internal market acquis in the EEA EFTA States and Switzerland, will feed into a non-legislative report that is being prepared by the Committee. The hearing will be held in Brussels on 07 May at 11.00

Deployment of the eCall in-vehicle systems

The legislative report on Deployment of the eCall in-vehicle system will be discussed in Plenary on 27 April and voted on28 April. To help mitigate the consequences of serious road accidents, the EU has committed to putting in place an emergency call system. The eCall will dial 112 - the Europe's single emergency number and communicate the vehicle's location to emergency services, even if the driver is unconscious or unable to make a phone call. It could save up to 2500 lives a year.

On Appliances burning gaseous fuels, both the draft report and the mandate to enter to first reading negotiations were adopted by the committee on 23 April. Members voted on 229 amendments and 4 compromise amendments. On Personal Protective Equipment, Members adopted the draft report and the mandate to enter into first reading negotiations on Personal Protective Equipment. A total of 238 amendments were voted on and 7 compromise amendments.

The Rapporteurs will prepare the negotiations on issues that are specific to Gas Appliances and Personal Protective Equipment while additional joint trialogues will be set for issues that are common to the dossiers on Cableway Installations, Personal Protective Equipment and Gas Appliances..

Legislative Scrutiny time in IMCO

IMCO hold its first dedicated session on"Legislative scrutiny" on 23 April. The new Public Procurement Directives was the first topic of this session. DG GROW answered relevant questions of Members.
The second topic of this legislative scrutiny session was the creation of the ODR platform, in implementation of Regulation 2013/524 on online dispute resolution for consumer disputes (ODR Regulation). The Commission services gave a short state-of-play of the platform.

Andrus Ansip, Vice-President responsible for Digital Single Market

Commissioner Andrus Ansip expressed his enthusiasm and willingness to work closely with IMCO Members on the implementation of the Strategy for the Digital Single Market, the date of publication of which has been confirmed for 6 May. In his opening statement,the Commissioner outlined the key priorities of the incoming strategy: better online access for consumers and businesses across Europe; creation of the right conditions and a level playing field for advanced digital single networks and innovative services and a maximisation of the growth potential on the digital economy.

Carbon monoxide can kill, so gas ovens should be professionally installed and maintained. But oven gloves need not be subject to EU safety rules unless they are labelled “protective”, said Internal Market Committee MEPs voting on draft EU rules on Thursday. (Más…)
