The Multi-annual Financial Framework (2014-20) from a Gender Equality Perspective

The working document has been prepared with the aim to outline the FEMM committee's views and priorities as regards the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the years 2014-2020. The document uses the Commission's proposal as reference and lays down general as well as specific remarks, regarding gender budgeting, the continued need for gender-specific programmes, earmarking of funds and gender financing in external relations.
The discussion was followed by a workshop on 26 January with the participation of experts, presenting their assessment of the instruments for the next European MFF, proposed by the European Commission, from a gender perspective. Besides a general approach of gender budgeting, their analysis concerns areas such as, economic independence, education, health/well-being/environment, fundamental rights, external relations.

Exchange of views with the Danish Presidency - 25 January

The exchange of views took place in the context of the traditional presentation by the incoming presidency of its priorities and programme in the committee's area of responsibility. The Danish Presidency was represented by Mr Manu Sareen, Minister for Gender Equality and Ecclesiastical Affairs and Minister for Nordic Cooperation, Danish Presidency and Ms Mette Frederiksen, Minister of Employment, Danish Presidency.

Equality between women and men in the European Union 2011 - 25 January

The FEMM committee discussed the numerous amendments tabled to the draft report, following its presentation at the December meeting. The high number of amendments well reflects the broad scope of the text, as the draft report deals with all the priority areas outlined in the EU strategic documents on women's rights, such as the Women’s Charter and the Strategy for Equality between Women and Men (2010-2015).

Tervitussõnad

As chair of the FEMM Committee I wish to extend a warm welcome to all visitors to this official website. Women’s rights and gender equality are the core issues of our Committee and we hope that our improved web presence can give the EU citizens and everyone who is interested in our mission, a better picture of our work and bring us closer to each other.
We will use this channel to further promote the Committee’s mandate and achievements through information and transparency to our audience. Despite many successes in empowering women, numerous issues still exist in all areas of life (social, cultural, political and economical) where women are not equally treated. Our general concerns are voiced over the pay gap, female poverty, women's underrepresentation in decision making, trafficking and violence against women and children. We want to change this and we need the help of civil society and all organizations who contribute to the fight for equal rights.

This site is a vast source of information on what we do and we hope that you find it user-friendly. We are at your disposal for your input about the site and also the content of our work. We invite you to periodically visit this website where you will find updates and the latest news from our Committee.
