The Review of the Framework for Electronic Communications

Brussels, Room 2Q2 (JAN building)

On 26 January 2017 ITRE organised a public hearing to discuss and gather expertise on the future of electronic communications. The organisation of this hearing was based on the proposal for a European Electronic Communications Code and the proposal for a BEREC Regulation that the Commission adopted as part of the Connectivity Package on 14 September 2016.

The hearing looked at aspects related to networks such as mapping, market analysis, investment and availability. It also considered the role of services and aspects such as the security of services. WiFi4eu and the topic of governance were also touched upon while the issues of investment, digital divide and 5G were treated as key cross-cutting themes for the sector.

With this hearing the European Parliament wished to engage in a multi-stakeholder dialogue on overcoming the barriers to a better integrated and improved European communication society.
