Protecting the rights of victims of terrorism in the EU
On 21 March 2018, TERR Special Committee held a public hearing dedicated to the protection of rights of victims of terrorism in the EU.
On the eve of commemoration of the attacks at Brussels National Airport and Maelbeek metro station on 22 March 2016, and the attack on Westminster Bridge in London on 22 March 2017, the hearing paid tribute to the victims of terrorism while tackling the issues still at stake to ensure that their rights are appropriately guaranteed within the European Union.
Members listened to the experiences and recommendations of victims, high-level practitioners, representatives of the civil society and of national authorities of Member States. The issues addressed included cross-border situations, access to justice and adequate financial and psychological support, awareness raising, and appropriate coordination at EU level.
