Vote on Adriatic and Ionian Seas fishing strategy

On 18 June at 09.00, Members of the PECH Committee voted on the own-initiative report: A strategy for fisheries in the Adriatic and Ionian Seas by Guido Milana (S&D). The report seeks to promote the establishment of a new EU strategy on fisheries and aquaculture in the Adriatic-Ionian sea basin, with a view to giving a major boost to the development of sustainable economic activities which will have a beneficial effect on coastal communities and adjacent inland areas.

Public hearing on Deep-Sea fishing

On 17 June at 15.00, PECH Committee organised a hearing on Deep-Sea fishing in room ASP 1G3. The Chair of the Committee on Fisheries opened the hearing introducing the experts. Following an introduction by Mr. Kriton Arsenis, there were two panels of experts. The first panel presented the industry perspective, and the following one discussed about trawlers and longliners in deep-sea fishing.

Vote of approval on the early second reading agreement of CFP

On 18 June at 09.00, PECH Members voted the approval on the early second reading agreement in respect of the draft report on the Common Fisheries Policy - 2011/0195(COD), by Ulrike Rodust (S&D).

eel stocks  
Vote on measures for the recovery of the European eel stocks

On 18 June at 9.00, the COD report amending the Council Regulation (EC) No 1100/2007 establishing measures for the recovery of European eel stocks by Isabella Lövin (Greens) was voted. The proposal from the Commission is part of the alignment to the Lisbon Treaty. The plan for the recovery of the European eel is particularly important given the vulnerable state of the eel stocks.

European Parliament secures sustainable fisheries policy

Measures to stop overfishing and ban discards, Parliament's key common fisheries policy (CFP) reform aims, have been safeguarded in a deal struck by Parliament and Council negotiators on Thursday. The deal should allow a more sustainable common fisheries policy to take effect on time, at the start of 2014.

Komisjoni vastutusalasse kuuluvad:
 
1.    ühise kalanduspoliitika toimimine ja arendamine ning selle haldamine;
2.    kalavarude kaitse;
3.    kalandustoodete turu ühine organiseerimine;
4.    struktuuripoliitika kalanduse ja akvakultuuri valdkonnas, kaasa arvatud kalanduse juhtimise rahalised vahendid;
5.    rahvusvahelised kalanduskokkulepped.

Meie komisjoni tähtsaim teema parlamendi praegusel ametiajal on kahtlemata ühise kalanduspoliitika käimasolev reform. Lissaboni lepingu jõustumise tulemusena on Euroopa Parlamendil selles protsessis kaasotsustamispädevus. Kalanduspoliitika peab ühendama mitmed eri huvid, et tagada merekeskkonna, kalavarude, kalurite, asjaomaste tööstusharude ja rannikuäärsete kogukondade pikaajaline jätkusuutlikkus. Praeguses kalanduspoliitikas on palju puudusi, mida soovivad kõrvaldada kõik kolm reformi kaasatud institutsiooni.
 
ELi kodanike piisav teavitamine sellest, kuidas kujundatakse poliitilisi otsuseid, mis võetakse vastu nende nimel, saab protsessi vaid toetada. Ma usun, et sellest veebisaidist on kasu meie igapäevase tegevuse tutvustamisel.
