Hearing on the fight against terrorism and the challenges for EU internal security

On Tuesday 14 April from 15.00 to 18.30 in room Paul-Henri Spaak PHS1A002, LIBE Committee will hold a hearing on the fight against terrorism and the challenges for EU internal security. The main objective of the public hearing is to give the Members the point of view of experts about the evolving terrorist threats and the policy approach to take, both in the field of counter-radicalisation and in the field of law-enforcement and criminal justice.  

The public hearing brings together institutional actors, practitioners and researchers. The first session will focus on the evolving terrorist threats and the implications for EU internal security. Contributions will come from Mr Rob Wainwright, Director of Europol and Ms Dolgor Solongo from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

The second session will focus on ways to countering violent extremism and preventing radicalisation. Contributions will come from Mr Peter Neumann, Director International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, Mr Didier Bigo and Mr Francesco Ragazzi, co-authors of the LIBE study on preventing and countering youth radicalisation in the EU, and Mr Mohamed Ajouaou, Head Muslim chaplaincy in the Netherlands in prisons and assistant professor at the Free University of Amsterdam. The last session will focus on policy instruments in the fight against terrorism. Ms Anna Nellberg-Dennis, Chair of EUROCOP, Mr Frédéric Van Leeuw, Federal prosecutor in Belgium and Ms Quirine Eijkman from the Centre for Terrorism and Counterterrorism of Leiden University will present their views.
