EEA-Switzerland: obstacles with regard to the full implementaiton of the internal market

The Rapporteur will present his own-INI Report focusing on the implementation deficit of the three EEA EFTA States (Iceland,Norway, Liechtenstein), the relations with Andorra, Monaco and San Marino, and the relations with Switzerland in light of the vote on the popular initiative"Against Mass Immigration" and the request by the Swiss Authorities to renegotiate the Free Movement of Persons Agreement (FMPA) with a view to introduce quota or national preference. A hearing is planned on 7 May.

Completing the digital single market

The Working Group (WG) on the Digital Single Market (DSM) had his second meeting of its 4th period of sessions on 14April at 15.00. Created in 2011, the WG on DSM led to the adoption of a number of parliamentary resolutions and has become a key platform for in-depth discussion where EP Members, EC, stakeholders and experts exchange views,identify new opportunities/challenges, remaining barriers and propose concrete measures to make the DSM in the EU a reality.

On 22 January Members voted on the draft report on Single Market governance within the European Semester 2015 and on the mandate to enter trialogue negotiations on package travel and assisted travel arrangements. They also voted on the opinions on undeclared work and EU competition policy.

Hearing Why Europe needs a legal framework for customs sanctions

On 22 January, the hearing brought together MEPs, lawyers and experts in the field of customs.

The first panel looked into different customs sanctioning systems in the member states, with particular attention to the liability and the thresholds to distinguish criminal/non-criminal infringements and sanctions. The second panel discussed the impact of the absence of an EU legal framework for customs sanctions on the single market and on the economic operators.

Ms Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Minister for Economics) presented the main priorities of the Latvian Presidency. More competitive EU as a basis for growth, increased well-being and future development, Strengthening the information society and making use of its benefits for the future development of the EU and Strengthening the EU role on a global scale and building a space of security and prosperity in the neighbouring regions are three potential areas to be focused on.

La commission du marché intérieur et de la protection des consommateurs (IMCO) est compétente pour les questions ayant trait à l'examen et au contrôle législatifs de la réglementation de l'Union sur la libre circulation des biens, des services et des professionnels, la politique douanière, la normalisation et les intérêts économiques des consommateurs. Les membres de la commission œuvrent à réduire les obstacles économiques et à simplifier la législation afin d'accroître la compétitivité au sein du marché unique, tout en étant attentifs aux intérêts des consommateurs dans une multitude de secteurs.
