On Tuesday, 26 May in room Paul-Henri Spaak (PHS) 3C050, the LIBE Committee will hold an exchange of views with Ms Vĕra Jourová, Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality on the implementation of the 2015 Commission Work Programme (CWP) and the priorities for the 2016 CWP, as foreseen in the Framework Agreement between the European Parliament and the Commission.

Democratic oversights of the intelligence services in EU

On Thursday, 28 May, from 9.00 to 12.30 and from 14.30 to 18.00, and Friday, 29 May, from 9.00 to 12.00, room Joszef Antall (JAN) 2Q2, LIBE Committee, together with the Belgian House of Representatives' Committee responsible for monitoring the Standing Committee P and the Standing Committee I, the German Bundestag's Parliamentary Oversight Panel and the Italian Parliament's Committee for the Security of the Republic (COPASIR) are jointly organising an Interparliamentary Committee meeting on Democratic oversight of intelligence services in the EU, as a follow up to paragraph 133 of the European Parliament resolution of 12 March 2014 on the USA surveillance programme, surveillance bodies in various Member States and their impact on EU citizens' fundamental rights and on the transatlantic cooperation in Justice and Home Affairs (2013/2188 (INI)).

Exchange of views on the strategic own-initiative report on migration

Thousands of migrants attempt crossing the Mediterranean every year, and some of them are saved from drowning by the Frontex operation. But that is not its mission.

In the LIBE Meeting on Wednesday, 6 May from 15.00 to 17.00, Members had an exchange of views with Zoe Konstantopoulou, President of the Hellenic Parliament, Admiral Filippo Maria Foffi, Commander in chief of the Italian Navy, Brig. Ret'd Martin Xuereb, Director of the Migrant Offshore Aid Station, as well as with Professor Philippe De Bruycker, MPC/EUI, coordinator Odysseus network, on the situation in the Mediterranean and the need for a holistic EU approach to migration (co-rapporteurs Roberta Metsola (EPP, MT) and Kashetu Kyenge (S&D, IT)).
The subject matter of the debate was Article 80 TFEU - Solidarity and fair sharing of responsibility, including search and rescue obligations.

On Wednesday, 6 May at 11.15 in room Paul-Henri Spaak PHS1A002, LIBE Committee voted on the draft reports on Legal aid for suspects or accused persons deprived of liberty and legal aid in European arrest warrant proceedings, on the Accession of Croatia to the Convention of 26 May 1997, drawn up on the basis of Article K.3(2)(c) of the Treaty on European Union, on the fight against corruption involving officials of the European Communities or officials of Member States of the European Union, on the Accession of Croatia to the Convention of 29 May 2000, established by the Council in accordance with Article 34 of the Treaty on European Union, on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters between the Member States of the European Union and its Protocol of 16 October 2001 as well as on the Member State responsible for examining the application for international protection of unaccompanied minors.

Traitement des demandes d'asile de mineurs non accompagnés

Les demandes d'asile de mineurs non accompagnés dans l'UE devraient être traitées dans l'État membre où se trouve l'enfant, même si ce n'est pas le pays dans lequel il a fait la première demande, estime la commission des libertés civiles. Traiter la demande dans le pays où se trouve l'enfant est généralement dans son meilleur intérêt et évite des déplacements inutiles, affirme la commission dans ses amendements au règlement de Dublin, qui stipule quel est l'État membre responsable de la demande. Procès équitables: renforcer les normes européennes pour l'aide juridictionnelle

Les personnes qui sont soupçonnées ou accusées d'un crime, ou font l'objet d'un mandat d'arrêt européen, mais ne peuvent se permettre un avocat ou une procédure judiciaire, devraient avoir accès à un financement de leur État membre et à une assistance tant pour l'aide juridictionnelle "provisoire" que "ordinaire", estiment les députés de la commission des libertés civiles dans les amendements à une proposition de directive européenne sur les droits à un procès équitable, votés mercredi.
