IMCO-ITRE joint committee meeting on the Digital Single Market

Towards a Digital Single Market Act

On 13 October PM, the first joint IMCO/ITRE meeting (rule 55) on the INI Report "Towards a Digital Single Market Act" will take place in the Hemicycle. This strategic report will provide the EP response to the DSM Strategy launched by the Commission in May. JURI, LIBE, CULT and EMPL will be associated Committees (rule 54), TRAN and ECON will also give an opinion (Rule 53). The vote is foreseen to take place in December.

Votes in IMCO Committee

Members will vote on the IMCO Calendar Meetings for 2016, on the recommendation for second reading of Package travel and assisted travel arrangements and on the Corrigendum to Regulation (EC) No 661/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 July 2009 concerning type-approval requirements for the general safety of motor vehicles, their trailers and systems, components and separate technical units intended therefore.

The US EPA issued on 18 September a notice of violation of emissions limits against Volkswagen due to a variety of models of diesel car emitting up to 40 times more pollution than emission standards allow. Volkswagen has admitted having fixed the tests for diesel emissions levels in the US market through "defeat devices" that cheat the emissions test for nitrogen oxides. ENVI, IMCO, ITRE and TRAN jointly draft an OQ to the EC to assess whether European testing regimes have also been affected.

Fourth meeting of the working group on Digital Single Market

The meeting was dedicated to discussing the dismantling of online barriers for consumers. Members discussed with stakeholders and members of the Permanent Representations to the EU on possible further actions when it comes to the consumer legislative framework for online purchases, and on measures needed to tackle geo-blocking. The meeting counted, among other speakers, with the participation of Mrs. Věra Jourová, Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality

Study TTIP Challenges and opportunities in the area of services

This study finds that there is significant scope for the EU to benefit from freeing up of transatlantic services trade while safeguarding European values and preserving the right to regulate. Importantly, TTIP negotiation of reduced transatlantic regulatory barriers will help unify the internal EU services market, leading to significant increases in intra-EU services trade. This paper was prepared by Policy Department A at the request of IMCO Committee.

Digital single market needs consumers' trust, say MEPs

Building consumers trust in online goods and services, improving infrastructure and promoting innovation are keys to unlocking the potential of the EU digital single market, which could generate €415 billion each year, Internal market and Industry MEPs said during a debate on Tuesday. Several MEPs also underlined the need to ensure net neutrality and avoid unnecessary red tape. (Tovább)

Az IMCO bizottság az áruk és szolgáltatások szabad mozgására, a szakemberek szabad mozgására, a vámpolitikára, a szabványosításra és a fogyasztók gazdasági érdekeire vonatkozó uniós szabályok jogalkotói felügyeletéért és ellenőrzéséért felelős.  A bizottság tagjai azon dolgoznak, hogy csökkentsék a gazdasági és kereskedelmi akadályokat, valamint hogy az egységes piac területén a versenyképesség fellendítése érdekében egyszerűsítsék a jogszabályokat, emellett pedig számos ágazatban védelmezik a fogyasztói érdekeket.
