Inter-parliamentary meeting - The Istanbul Convention
Brussels
Following the tradition to celebrate the International Day for the elimination of Violence against Women, the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality proposes this year to bring together European and National Parliamentarians around the theme: "The Istanbul Convention: combating violence against women at national and EU level".
The aim of the inter-parliamentary Committee meeting (ICM) is to assess what is the state of the ratification and implementation of the Istanbul Convention at EU and national levels and how it is being monitored by GREVIO. The event is taking place in a year that the EU is especially devoting to prevent and combat violence against women. The signature by the EU of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (the Istanbul Convention) has been the major milestone of 2017 in the common task of fighting gender-based violence.
