The EU Budget and SMEs

On 15 July (15.00-18.30) the Committee on Budgets will organise a public hearing on the topic of "the EU budget and SMEs". The hearing, which will be chaired by MEPs Paul Rübig (EPP) and Siegfried Muresan (EPP), will consist of two panel discussions. Speakers will focus on "EU financial support for SMEs: Lessons learnt" and "A new approach to supporting start-ups: How can the EU budget do better?"

New study on the EU Budget for Gender Equality

Study "The EU Budget for Gender Equality"

This study subjects the EU budget to a gender budgeting analysis revealing revenue and spending decisions' impacts on gender equality. It covers the operational expenditure of six selected policy areas, in an attempt to pave the way for further, more comprehensive analysis. The authors adopt the capability approach, based on a broad definition of human wellbeing, following bottom-up logic.

Vote on mandate for trilogue on Budget 2016

At their 23 June meeting, Members of the Committee onBudgets voted on the mandate for trilogue on the Budget 2016 (rapporteur: MrJosé Manuel Fernandes (EPP)).

The priorities presented in thereport as adopted by the BUDG committee are:

-         respecting the commitments taken, notably aspart of the MFF;

-         further offsetting the knock-on effects of EFSIon Horizon 2020 and the Connecting Europe Facility;

-         reversing the decrease for COSME;

-         continuing the Youth Employment Initiative;

-         tackling the security and migration challenges;

-         securing sufficient levels of payments to reducethe backlog of unpaid bills and ensure the implementation of the newprogrammes.

Once adopted in plenary (July), the mandate for triloguewill constitute Parliament's first reaction to the Commission's Draft Budgetfor 2016. In Autumn, Parliament will formally respond to Council's position onthe Draft Budget for 2016.

Report on European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) successfully adopted in BUDG and ECON committees

In a joint meeting on June 16, the BUDG and ECON committees endorsed the result of the negotiations on the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) by an overwhelming majority of over 80%.

The was discussed and voted in plenary on June 24.

Backed by a €16 billion guarantee from the EU budget, the Fund will aim to promote job creation and growth across the EU, by triggering investments worth an estimated €315 billion over three years.

Exchange of views: Situation in the Mediterranean and need for holistic EU approach to migration

On 23 June, Members of the Committee on Budgets held a first exchange of views on the situation in the Mediterranean and the need for a holistic EU approach to migration. The rapporteur, Mr Gérard Deprez (ALDE), presented a draft opinion on the same topic at a future committee meeting, as the BUDG committee's contribution to an own-initiative report of the LIBE committee. This report will follow up on the EP resolution of 17 December 2014 and put forward specific recommendations.

Extra €69.6 million for migration measures approved in Budgets Committee

The three EU agencies managing migration flows and various EU funds dealing with migration should get a €69.6 million budget boost , said the Budgets Committee on Tuesday as it approved proposed changes to this year's European budget. The budget increases still need to be approved by Parliament as a whole and the Council of Ministers. (Seguito)


Approvati 66,5 milioni di euro per le inondazioni in Italia, Romania e Bulgaria

La commissione per i bilanci nella sua riunione di martedì ha stabilito che Italia, Romania e Bulgaria dovrebbero ottenere 66,5 milioni di euro dall'UE come aiuto alla ricostruzione dopo le gravi inondazioni subite 2014. Budgets MEPs back €1.36 million in EU aid for redundant workers in Finland

More than 500 workers made redundant by electrical manufacturer Broadcom Communications Finland and two suppliers should get EU aid worth €1.36 million to help them find new jobs, said the Budgets Committee on Tuesday. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aid still needs to be approved by Parliament as a whole and the EU Council of Ministers. (Seguito)
