Time to revisit summer time?

JURI, ITRE and TRAN Committees organised a public hearing on summer time arrangements. During the hearing experts had an exchange of views with Members on the impact of summer time arrangements in transport and tourism, seasonal time-change on energy consumption and European industry. The Summer Time Directive has also been discussed. The hearing took place on 24 March 2015.

On 23 March ITRE Committee welcomed Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President for Energy Union to discuss next steps in the implementation of the Energy Union Strategy. On 24 March, exchange of views on forthcoming energy and climate policy measures with Miguel Arias Cañete, Commissioner for Climate Action & Energy took place in ITRE Committee.

Assessment of Recent Developments and Recommendations for Future Policies

Following disregard in the 1980s, industrial policy has recently attracted policy attention at EU level. The objective of this study provided by Policy Department A at the request of the ITRE Committee, is to establish the state of the art of a coordinated and integrated EU industrial policy. It assesses current initiatives, policies and arrangements and proposes an overview of stakeholders' positions at EU and national levels in order to feed into the debate on how to improve competitiveness and growth in Europe.

Considerando che la reindustrializzazione costituisce il nostro obiettivo globale, la commissione ITRE dovrà concentrarsi su quattro ambiti prioritari.

In primo luogo dobbiamo far sì che il quadro giuridico ed economico dell'UE permetta al comparto industriale europeo di divenire più innovativo. A tale fine sarà necessario adattare e mobilitare i programmi dell'UE in materia di R&S e istruzione per rispondere in modo efficace alle esigenze reali dell'industria.
