Security, borders, asylum funds, interoperability, rule of law: committee votes
The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will vote on the reports on establishing the Internal Security Fund, the Asylum and Migration Fund, and part of the Integrated Border Management Fund, on 19.02.19. It will also vote on a resolution on the situation of the rule of law and the fight against corruption, specifically in Malta and Slovakia, and the provisional agreements on explosives precursors, on the Visa Code and on interoperability between EU information systems.
European Parliamentary Week 2019: inter-parliamentary committee meetings
The European Parliamentary Week 2019 will take place on 18-19.02.19, with parliamentarians from all over the EU who will discuss economic, social and budgetary issues. The Committees on Economic and Monetary Affairs, on Employment and Social Affairs, and on Budgets will hold inter-parliamentary meetings focusing on, amongst others, tax policy, the Banking Union, new forms of employment, monitoring of Member States’ activities for people with disabilities, the post-2020 MFF, and own-resources.
Long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy: committee vote
The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will vote on a motion for a resolution on the long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy in accordance with the Paris Agreement, on 20.02.19. The resolution welcomes the Commission communication "A Clean Planet for all" which presents eight pathways for the economic, technological and social transformation needed. It also endorses the objective of net-zero GHG emissions by 2050 and urges Members to do the same.
Establishment of European Monetary Fund: committee vote
The Committees on Budgets and on Economic and Monetary Affairs will vote on the interim report on establishing the European Monetary Fund, on 20.02.19. The EMF aims to provide transitional financial assistance to Member States in need, on the basis of specific conditionalities agreed under adjustment programmes. The report calls for bringing the intergovernmental European Stability Mechanism into the EU's legal framework in order to increase its democratic legitimacy and accountability.
Type-approval requirements: committee vote. Single Market: debates with Commissioners
The Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection will meet on 20-21.02.19 to vote on the report on type-approval requirements for motor vehicles and their trailers. The report brings together the current Vehicle General Safety Regulation and the Pedestrian Safety Regulation in a single legal text. The Committee will also hold debates with Commissioners Moscovici, Bieńkowska, and Gabriel to discuss the challenges ahead for unlocking the full benefits of the internal market.
Seasonal changes of time, excise duty, return, copyright: committee votes
The Committee on Legal Affairs will vote on the report on discontinuing seasonal changes of time, on 19.02.19. It will also vote on a petition on the Commission’s discretionary powers on the application of EU law by Member States, and on the reports on general arrangements for excise duty in Member States, and on returning illegally staying third-country nationals. The provisional interinstitutional agreement on copyright in the digital single market will possibly be voted on the same day.
2017 Discharge: committee votes
The Committee on Budgetary Control will vote on the draft reports concerning the 2017 Discharge to the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Development Fund, Other Institutions, the Agencies and the Joint Undertakings. The meeting will take place on 20.02.19. The discharge procedure gives the final approval of the implementation of the budget for a specific year. It is granted by the European Parliament on a recommendation from the Council.
