Opening of negotiations on a Plurilateral Agreement on Services

The Committee will vote during its next meeting on a resolution setting its expectations for the recently-launched negotiations, to which the EU participates, for a plurilateral agreement on trade in services. This agreement has the potential for increasing services trade between the EU and all its developed trading partners and for lowering regulatory barriers to services trade and investment. But it might also represent a "foe" to the WTO's General Agreement on Trade in Services.

Burma and investment policy in plenary

The Chamber is due to vote on a number of trade issues. Firstly an investment policy instrument ensuring that the EU has the right system in place in cases "investor to state dispute settlement" disputes arise between foreign investors and the EU and its Member States. Secondly the Parliament is due to decide whether Burma/Myanmar is progressing so much that the country should have its EU trade preferences back, which were withdrawn in 1997, due to widespread use of forced labour.

EU -US Trade and investment negotiations on plenary agenda

The Parliament will adopt a resolution (from the Committee on International Trade) on the trade and investment negotiations with the US, giving its position on the draft mandate for the upcoming negotiations for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement.

New rules to ensure that chemicals used in industrial processes, such as manufacturing plastics, textiles, aspirin, flu and allergy remedies, dyes and perfumes, are not diverted to the illegal production of heroin, speed or crack were adopted by the Civil Liberties Committee on Wednesday and by the International Trade Committee on Thursday.

Trade MEPs urge Council to launch trade and investment talks with US

The EU Council of Ministers should authorize the start of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) talks with the US in June, say International Trade Committee MEPs in a resolution voted on Thursday. The negotiating mandate should include public procurement and financial services, but exclude culture, they add.

klausimus, susijusius su Sąjungos bendros prekybos politikos formavimu ir įgyvendinimu bei jos išorės ekonominiais santykiais, ypač:
 
1.    finansinius, ekonominius ir prekybinius ryšius su trečiosiomis šalimis ir regioninėmis organizacijomis;
2.    techninio derinimo ir standartizacijos priemones tarptautinės teisės dokumentų reglamentuojamose srityse;
3.    santykius su susijusiomis tarptautinėmis organizacijomis ir organizacijomis, skatinančiomis ekonominę bei prekybinę integraciją už Sąjungos ribų;
4.    santykius su PPO, įskaitant jos parlamentinę veiklą.
 
Komitetas koordinuoja tarpparlamentinių delegacijų ir ad hoc delegacijų veiklą tiek, kiek tai susiję su jo kompetencija.

Dabar su prekyba susiję teisės aktai ir prekybos susitarimai gali būti įgyvendinami tik pritarus Europos piliečiams atstovaujančiam Europos Parlamentui.
