On 29 May 2017, in accordance with Article 246 subparagraph 2 TFEU, the Council decided to consult the European Parliament on the appointment to the position of member of the European Commission of Ms Mariya Gabriel for the Digital Economy and Society portfolio.
Pursuant to Rule 118 and Annex XVI of the Rules of procedures, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Culture and Education jointly proceeded to a hearing of Ms Mariya Gabriel. Associated committees were IMCO, JURI and LIBE. Guidelines for the hearing were adopted by the Conference of Presidents on the basis of a proposal from the Conference of Committee Chairs. The hearing took place on Tuesday 20 June in Brussels from 15.00 to 18.00 in József Antall building, room 2Q2. ITRE and CULT Coordinators then met on Wednesday 21 June to assess the hearing so that Mr Buzek, Chair of the ITRE Committee, and Ms Petra Kammerevert, Chair of the CULT Committee, could inform the President of Parliament in view of a decision during the July plenary.
