On 28 and 29 September, the Budgets Committee voted amendments tabled to the 2016 budget of the Union. In its July resolution, Parliament set as its main priorities: restoring cuts to the Horizon 2020 programme and Connecting Europe Facility, continuing the Youth Employment Initiative and putting more resources to tackle the migration crisis. Political groups, committees and individual Members tabled a total of 1902 amendments to the Council's reading of the Commission's Draft Budget.

On 13 October, the Budgets Committee approved a motion for a resolution on the Council's reading of the Commission's 2016 Draft Budget of the Union. This text accompanies the budgetary amendments voted in late September, which aim, as a priority, at restoring cuts to the Horizon 2020 programme and Connecting Europe Facility, continuing the Youth Employment Initiative and putting more resources to tackle the migration crisis.

Financial assistance for Greece/Bulgaria approved in wake of natural disasters

On 14 September the Committee on Budgets voted in favour of a proposal to grant EUR 16,3 million to Greece and Bulgaria in response to devastating natural disasters that hit in early 2015 (severe winter conditions in Bulgarian, two instances of flooding in Greece). The funding, to be mobilised from the EU Solidarity Fund, comprises EUR 6,4 million for Bulgaria and EUR 9,9 million for Greece. Both countries have already received a 10% advance payment. Plenary approved the aid on 6 October.

On 29 September, the Committee on Budgets approved three proposals to mobilise the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund. Following this approval, financial support will be provided for the reintegration into the labour market of a total of 7376 redundant workers of three companies (Ford Genk/Belgium, Adam Opel Bochum/Germany and Gruppo Alitalia/Italy), as well as suppliers and downstream producers, for a total of EUR 14,6 million.

Budgets MEPs want more money for migration and jobs in 2016

The budgets committee on Tuesday demanded more funds to handle the migration and refugee crisis, help young people into jobs, and fully offset the cuts to the EU's research and transport networks programs, in a political resolution on the 2016 budget. Budget MEPs approve extra €401.3 million for migration in 2015 budget

Budget MEPs on Monday endorsed the Commission's proposal for new funds of €330.7 million and a redeployment of €70.6 million in commitment appropriations to cope with the refugee crisis. EP adds funds for migration, jobs, youth to draft EU budget 2016

Council cuts in EU 2016 budget funding for refugees and agencies dealing with migrants were reversed by Budgets Committee MEPs in votes on Monday and Tuesday. Budget MEPs approve EU aid for redundant workers in Germany, Belgium and Italy

Germany, Belgium and Italy should get over €14.6 million in EU aid to help more than 7,300 workers made redundant by three firms get back on to the job market, following a vote by the budgets committee on Tuesday. Budgets Committee approves €16.3 million in disaster aid for Bulgaria and Greece

Bulgaria and Greece should get €16.3 million in EU aid to help repair damage done to public and private infrastructure by exceptionally severe weather conditions early in 2015, said the Budgets Committee on Monday. This European Solidarity Fund aid still needs to be approved by Parliament as a whole in October. (Lasīt tālāk)
