DROI Committee Meetings

The next DROI meeting will be held on Monday, 27 May, from 15h00 to 18h30 and on Tuesday, 28 May, from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 15h30 to 19h00 in meeting room ASP - 3E-2.
 
The meetings of the Subcommittee on Human Rights are open to the public.  However, for security reasons, participants must obtain an access badge in advance. Requests for access passes must be sent 3 working days before the start of the meeting to droi-secretariat@europarl.europa.eu

Human rights situation in Russia

An exchange of views on the human rights situation in Russia will take place on 28 May in the afternoon. There will be two main topics for discussion: the fate of political prisoners, including the Khodorkovsky case and a review of the new restrictions put on the activities of Russian civil society organisations.

   
Yemen human rights  
Exchange of views with EU Ambassador to Yemen, Bettina Muscheidt

Jointly with the Committee on Foreign Affairs - 28 May, in the morning
 
Ms Bettina Muscheidt, the EU Ambassador to Yemen will update members on the human rights situation in Yemen, in particular on the release of the political detainees, women's rights, children's rights, the death penalty and the prospect of national dialogue in Yemen.

Damas de Blanco receive their Sakharov Prize at the European Parliament

The Cuban "Ladies in White" (Damas de Blanco) protest movement was at last able to receive its European Parliament Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in Brussels on Tuesday, when, over seven years later, Havana finally lifted a travel ban. The prize was presented at a special ceremony during a joint meeting of the foreign affairs, development and human rights committees, attended by European Parliament President, Martin Schulz.

Cilvēktiesību apakškomiteja ir Ārlietu komitejas apakškomiteja. Tās pienākumi ir aprakstīti Ārlietu komitejas pienākumu piektajā punktā:
 
   "jautājumiem saistībā ar cilvēktiesībām, minoritāšu tiesību aizsardzību un demokrātisko vērtību veicināšanu trešās valstīs. Šajā kontekstā komitejai palīdz cilvēktiesību apakškomiteja. Neskarot attiecīgos noteikumus, citu šajā jomā kompetento komiteju un struktūru locekļus aicina piedalīties apakškomitejas sanāksmēs."

Laipni lūdzam Eiropas Parlamenta Cilvēktiesību apakškomitejas tīmekļa vietnē. Kopš pārveidošanas 2004. gadā mūsu apakškomiteja ir kļuvusi par svarīgu Eiropas platformu cilvēktiesību aizsardzībai visā pasaulē.
 
Apakškomiteja, ko dēvē arī par DROI, rīko uzklausīšanas un diskusijas par visdažādākajiem cilvēktiesību jautājumiem. Šo debašu rezultātā mēs pieņemam ziņojumus un rezolūcijas, tādējādi veicinot starptautiskas debates par tādiem jautājumiem kā nāvessods, spīdzināšana vai cīņa pret nesodāmību. Tāpat mēs cenšamies, cik drīz vien iespējams, reaģēt uz cilvēktiesību pārkāpumiem visā pasaulē, dodot iespēju tikt sadzirdētiem tiem, kas skarti visvairāk.
 
DROI arī izstrādā projektu ikgadējam ziņojumam par cilvēktiesību situāciju, kurā tiek izvērtēts cilvēktiesību stāvoklis pasaulē. Vēl viens būtisks mūsu darba aspekts ir ikgadējā Saharova balva par domas brīvību, ko katru gadu decembrī piešķir personām vai organizācijām, kas cīnās par cilvēktiesībām un pamatbrīvībām. 2013. gadā mēs atzīmēsim tās 25. gadskārtu.
 
Mūsu tīmekļa vietnē jūs varat tiešsaistē sekot mūsu sanāksmēm un lejupielādēt visus dokumentus. Nodrošināt piekļuvi mūsu darbam ir patiešām būtiski, jo mēs augstu vērtējam ieguldījumu un aktuālu informāciju, ko iegūstam no cilvēktiesību aizstāvjiem, pilsoņiem un NVO.
