Obstacles to trade and illegal trade" This study provides a concise report and analysis on two issues vital to EU trade in raw materials, namely a discussion of trade measures that constitute an obstacle to free trade in raw materials and an assessment of the importance of illegal trade in such materials.

EU proposal for a TTIP chapter on investment protection mechanism

During the exchange of views with Mr Mauro Petriccione, Deputy Director General of DG Trade, INTA Members found out how the European Commission incorporated the Parliament's recommendations in the proposed chapter providing for investment protection mechanism in TTIP. Last week the Commission issued the EU proposal for a TTIP chapter on investment protection mechanism.

Recommendations to the European Commission on the negotiations for TiSA

TiSA- the acronym for "Trade in Services Agreement" - still under negotiations, is aimed at opening new services market around the world and is potentially very beneficial for the EU: 68% of manpower in the EU is employed in the services sector and 10 million EU jobs dependent on exports of services. INTA Members discussed this issue on the basis of a working document which was presented by the Rapporteur, Mrs Viviane REDING.

Committee votes

INTA voted on many files, among them the "Anti-torture Regulation" aiming to step-up EU-wide controls on items that could be misused for capital punishment or torture; and the Resolution on "Accession of Ecuador to the concluded Trade Agreement EU-Colombia and Peru" where MEPs adopted their position on the envisaged accession before Parliament will be requested to give its consent (probably next year).

Anti-torture rules: Trade MEPs call for bans on goods marketing and EU transit

Goods or substances that may be misused for torture or execution should not be promoted for export, so as to prevent their spread, said the International Trade Committee, voting on Tuesday to strengthen EU “Anti-torture” rules. MEPs want to widen today’s EU ban to include services, e.g. marketing in expos or online catalogues, but also finance, transport and insurance. They also want to ban transit of prohibited goods via the EU and add a “catch-all” clause to allow checks on dubious new ones. (Lasīt tālāk)
