Debate on Counter-Terrorism, Radicalisation and Foreign Fighters, 27/01

On 27 January at 9.15 in room József Antall (JAN) 4Q1 the LIBE Committee will hold a debate on Counter-Terrorism, Radicalisation and Foreign Fighters as a follow-up to the events in Paris on 7January 2015 and in the run-up to the informal JHA Council on 29/30 January in Riga and the European Council on 12 February. Dimitris AVRAMOPOULOS,Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship as well as Gilles de KERCHOVE, EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator have been invited to take part in this exchange of views. Also, Mr Omar RAMADAN, Head of the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) will give a presentation on the best practices and lessons learned from national/local initiatives in preventing and countering radicalisation, for example on addressing radicalisation in prisons or on exit strategies. Mr Morten KJAERUM, Director of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) as well as Mr Giovanni BUTTARELLI, European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) will give presentations on the fundamental rights and data protection aspects of counter-terrorism measures.

Money laundering

In the joint LIBE /ECON meeting on 27January at 15.00 in room Joszef Antall (JAN) 4Q2 Members will vote on endorsing the agreed text after negotiations with the Commission and the Council on the Prevention of the use of the financial system for the purpose of money laundering and terrorist financing (2013/0025(COD)), Rapporteurs Judith SARGENTINI (Verts/ALE) and Krišjānis KARIŅŠ (PPE), as well as on the Information accompanying transfers of funds (2013/0024(COD)), Timothy KIRKHOPE (ECR) and Peter SIMON (S&D).
