The ENVI Committee considered the draft report on "Emission limits and type-approval for internal combustion engines for non-road mobile machinery" on 26 May. The Commission's proposal mainly aims at reducing the emissions and broaden the coverage of machine categories. The rapporteur asks to simplify procedures,  as well as a longer transition period for small manufacturers and the possibility to replace certain heavy engines with along life time with engines of the same, older emission stage.

The ENVI Committee voted on the outcome of negotiations with the Council on "Establishment and operation of a market stability reserve for the Union greenhouse gas emission trading scheme and amendment of Directive 2003/87/EC"  by Ivo Belet on 26 May.

The ENVI Committee voted on the draft report by Esther Herranz Garcia on "Maximum permitted levels of radioactive contamination of food and feed following a nuclear accident or any other case of radiological emergency" on 26 May.

The ENVI Committee held an exchange of views with Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the Commission, on the Energy Union Strategy in the context of Commission Work Programme 2015 and the priorities for 2016 as part of the structured dialogue. Key topics for the ENVI Committee include the implementation of the 2030 climate and energy framework, the international climate negotiations and the climate and decarbonisation aspects of the EU energy union.

CO2 market fix: Environment Committee MEPs back deal with Council

A reform of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), informally agreed with the Latvian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, was backed by the Environment Committee on Tuesday. The reform aims to reduce the surplus of carbon credits available for trading in order to support the price of the emission rights. The scheme would start operating in 2019. (Lasīt tālāk)

MEPs vote to cap emissions of medium combustion plants

EU countries would have to enforce sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emission limits upon medium-sized combustion plants, such as electricity generators or heating systems for domestic, residential or industrial use, under draft plans approved by the Environment Committee on Wednesday. MEPs voted to adapt the scheme to match the plants’ thermal input, so as to reduce the administrative burden on small businesses. (Lasīt tālāk)

ETS market stability reserve: MEPs strike deal with Council

A draft law to reform the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), by reducing the surplus of carbon credits available for trading into order to support the price, was informally agreed upon by MEPs and the Latvian Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers on Tuesday.
