This study provides an overview of the status and potential evolution of how content is delivered to the wider public in Europe, including the experience of the public sector and commercial providers. On the base of problems and causes identified, a series of recommendations are made to respond to the challenges of the digital era regarding access to content in Europe.

The European cultural and creative sectors as sources of economic growth and jobs

On 28 May 2013, Ms Sanchez-Schmid will present her own-initiative draft report on ‘Promoting the European cultural and creative sectors as sources of economic growth and jobs’. In addition to being essential drivers for cultural diversity, these sectors are one of Europe's most dynamic economic areas. The draft report focuses on how to promote the right conditions for the development of these sectors and to foster positive synergy effects on the rest of the economy and on society as a whole. It also highlights the measures needed to help these industries face a rapidly changing environment and in particular the challenges brought by the digital shift and the globalisation. The vote in committee on the draft report is foreseen for 18 June.

Supporting artistic and cultural creation in the EU

Music and architecture, video games, crafts, design and fashion offer considerable growth potential which the EU should support and exploit, says a draft resolution voted by the Culture Committee on Tuesday. It calls for a stronger partnership with universities to equip young people with the requisite skills. It also advocates creating a social status to counter the precarity of many professionals in these fields.

Towards a common legislative framework for audiovisual media and Internet

The advent of Internet-connected TV poses challenges in the areas of media pluralism, protection for minors, advertising in the media and the diversity of European works. A report voted by the Culture Committee on Tuesday highlights the dangers of not having a coherent regulatory framework to meet them.

Deze commissie is bevoegd voor:
 
1.    de culturele aspecten van de Europese Unie, met name
(a)    de verbetering van de kennis en verbreiding van cultuur,
(b)    de bescherming en bevordering van culturele en taaldiversiteit,
(c)    de instandhouding en bescherming van het cultureel erfgoed, culturele uitwisselingen en
        scheppend werk op artistiek gebied;
 
2.    het onderwijsbeleid van de Unie, waaronder het hoger onderwijs in Europa, en bevordering van het stelsel van
       Europese scholen en levenslang leren;
 
3.    audiovisueel beleid en de culturele en onderwijsaspecten van de informatiemaatschappij;
 
4.    jeugdbeleid en de ontwikkeling van een sportbeleid en vrijetijdsbeleid;
 
5.    voorlichtings- en mediabeleid;
 
6.    samenwerking met derde landen op het gebied van cultuur en onderwijs, en betrekkingen met relevante internationale
       organisaties en instellingen.

Welkom op de website van de Commissie cultuur en onderwijs. U vindt hier informatie over ons werk, waaronder de agenda's van onze eerstvolgende vergaderingen, ontwerpverslagen en de amendementen daarop, en informatie over de leden van de commissie, zodat u direct met hen in contact kunt treden. Tevens kunt u de vergaderingen van de commissie rechtstreeks volgen via internet.
 
Binnen het Parlement is de commissie verantwoordelijk voor onderwijs, cultuur, jeugd, sport en de culturele en educatieve aspecten van het EU-mediabeleid. De commissie neemt nieuwe wetten aan en houdt toezicht op de EU-programma's die op deze terreinen zijn ontwikkeld; dit op voet van gelijkheid met de regeringen van de lidstaten. Het betreft hier onder meer het programma voor een leven lang leren, waarmee het studentenuitwisselingsprogramma Erasmus bekostigd wordt; het programma Cultuur 2007, dat dient ter ondersteuning van de Europese culturele hoofdsteden; en het programma Media 2007, waarmee een aantal succesvolle Europese films als Slumdog Millionaire medegefinancierd zijn. Daarnaast organiseert de commissie regelmatig hoorzittingen om bij experts informatie in te winnen over aspecten van haar werk.
 
Ik ben er trots op voorzitter van deze commissie te zijn en hoop dat de website u van dienst kan zijn bij het volgen van ons werk.
