Elmar Brok meets Australian Minister of Finance Mathias Cormann

On 29 June 2015, AFET Chair Elmar Brok met the Australian Minister of Finance Mathias Cormann. Among the topics of discussion were EU-Australia relations, with a focus on bilateral agreements and trade, the overall economic situation in the European Union, and the geopolitical situation in the South-East Asia, in particular relating to maritime security.

Elmar Brok met the Vice President of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies in order to prepare the Inter-parliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), which is to take place in Luxembourg on 5 and 6 September 2015. The Conference is the most important forum for debate among parliamentarians from the 28 EU Member States and the European Parliament on EU foreign and security policy.

Elmar Brok meets Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel

In preparation of the Luxembourg presidency of the Council, Elmar Brok, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, met Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel in his official residence. Primary focus of their discussions were foreign policy matters as well as the planning of the next interparliamentary conference, whose priorities are the orientation of EU defence policy following the European Summit on Defence, migration policy and climate change, as well as civilian crisis management. In the light of the debate about the future of Greece in the Eurozone, Mr Brok and Mr Bettel also discussed finding a reasonable solution to the crisis. Lastly, the free trade agreement TTIP was subject of discussion. In the light of the public controversy over TTIP, it is very important to both politicians to focus their attention on those areas of the agreement that are viewed with concern by citizens.

Za pomocą dyplomacji parlamentarnej aktywnie działamy również na rzecz nawiązywania i zacieśniania stosunków z naszymi kluczowymi sojusznikami. Dzięki tym wieloletnim stosunkom dyplomatycznym przyczyniamy się do rozwoju światowych norm i zasad oraz czuwamy nad takim tworzeniem prawa UE, aby prawidłowo wpisywało się ono w ład światowy.
