On the basis of petitions submitted on adoption without parental consent in England and Wales, the study commissioned by the Committee examines the law and practice in England and Wales, in comparison to other jurisdictions within the EU. It details the procedures followed by the English courts in relation to child protection proceedings involving a child who has a connection to another EU Member State, and gives recommendations for cooperation between the Member States in future proceedings.

At its meeting of 14 July 2015 the Committee held exchange of views on the opinion to the strategic report of the LIBE Committee on The situation in the Mediterranean and the need for a holistic EU approach to migration (Rapporteur: Marlene Mizzi, S-D). The opinion highlights concerns of the citizens regarding the unprecedented crisis in the Mediterranean and proposes recommendations on the EU migration policy, prevention of loss of lives at sea, protection of refugees and asylum seekers.

The Committee on Petitions received numerous petitions asking for the abolition of the summer-winter time arrangements in the EU. The petitioners claim that such arrangements have negative impact on health and do not ensure sufficient energy saving advantages. The Committee exchanged views on these petitions on 14 July 2015.
