The exchange of views took place in the context of the traditional presentation by the incoming Presidency of its priorities and programme in the FEMM Committee's area of responsibility. Mr Uldis AUGULIS is Minister of Welfare of the Republic of Latvia and has the competency in the area of gender equality and protection of women's rights.
As chair of the FEMM Committee I wish to extend a warm welcome to all visitors to our official website. Women’s rights and gender equality are the core issues of our Committee and we hope that our improved web presence can give the citizens and everyone who is interested in our mission, a better picture of our work and bring us closer to each other.
We will use this channel, besides other communication channels, to further promote the Committee’s mandate and achievements through information and transparency to our audience. Despite many successes in empowering women, numerous issues still exist in our social, cultural, political, and economic life where women are not equally treated. Our general concerns are voiced namely over pay gap, women's economic independence, female poverty, women's underrepresentation in decision making, sexual and reproductive health rights, trafficking and violence against women and girls. We want to bring a change and mainstream gender into all EU policies. In order to do this, we need the help of civil society and all organizations who contribute to the engagement for equal rights for all.
This website is a vast source of information on what we do and we hope that you find it user-friendly. We are at your disposal for inputs about the site and also the content of our work. We invite you to periodically visit our website where you will find updates and the latest news from FEMM Committee.
