Commissioner Hogan to visit AGRI as part of structured dialogue

Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan was invited for an exchange of views with the AGRI Committee Members in the context of the so-called "structured dialogue" foreseen in the Framework Agreement on relations between the European Parliament and the Commission. The topics for discussion included the2015 Commission Work Programme and the priorities for 2016 (Thursday 28 May at 11.00).

Brazilian Agriculture Minister to debate with AGRI Members

Brazilian Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Kátia Abreu  addressed Members ofthe AGRI Committee on the occasion of her first official visit to the European Parliament since taking office on 1 January 2015. Brazil is one of the EU's strategic partners and one of the world's biggest agricultural powers. The Minister debated with Members on experiences and best practices in agriculture and rural development and in particular, in setting and implementing sustainable policies (Tuesday 26 May at 15.00h).

How to simplify the CAP?: AGRI hearing

Following on their debate with Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan in March, AGRI Members listened to experts representing farmers, paying agencies and independent consultants so as to assess what can be done to simplify the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in a public hearing on 4 May. The hearing focused on the experience with the implementation of the CAP reform so far as well as suggestions for solutions to make the CAP more user friendly.

Agriculture priorities of the Latvian Presidency

Latvian Agriculture Minister Jānis Dūklavs presented the priorities of the EU Presidency for the first half of 2015 during the AGRI meeting of 21 January at 15.00 (room JAN 4Q1 Brussels). This was also an opportunity for the Presidency and AGRI Members to react to the Commission's draft work programme for 2015 which recommended to the co-legislators to conclude negotiations on the organic farming legislation within 6 months and to put on hold the school schemes proposal pending a new evaluation.
