Following the recently proposed regulation setting up a European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), a public hearing will be organised jointly by the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs on 02.03.15. The debates will focus specifically on the macroeconomic impact, project selection, additionality of EFSI financing, governance, practical implementation and private investment.
The Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality will hold an inter-parliamentary committee meeting on empowering women and girls through education to discuss challenges, opportunities and steps ahead at the EU level. Taking place on 05.03.15, the meeting will focus on ways of eliminating gender disparity in education and training, and on challenges for equal access to continuous and quality education. The EP Press Service will also hold a seminar for journalists on this topic on 04.03.15.
The Special Committee on Tax Rulings and Other Measures Similar in Nature or Effect has elected its chair and vice-chair(s) during its constitutive meeting of 26.02.15. Set-up for an initial period of six months with 45 members, the committee will look into tax ruling practices as far back as 1 January 1991. It will also review the way the European Commission treats state aid in member states and the extent to which they are transparent about their tax rulings.
The IMCO Working Group on the Digital Single Market will restart its activities on 02.03.15. The meeting will focus on the challenges and opportunities brought about by the digital revolution. Set up in 2011, this working group has become a key platform for in-depth discussion between institutional representatives and stakeholders with the aim of proposing concrete measures towards achieving a real Digital Single Market within the EU.
The Committee on Development is holding a workshop with experts on tax avoidance and tax evasion as challenges for governance, social protection and development in developing countries. The aim is to take stock of the situation and the impact on developing countries and to explore solutions and policy recommendations. The workshop will be held on 02.03.15 and will feed into a forthcoming report dealing with the same issues.
