Exchange of views on the Fourth Railway Package

The TRAN Committee will hold an exchange of views on the 4th Railway Package, which seeks to deliver better quality and more choice in European railway services.
 
The event will take place in JAN 6Q2 in two parts:
  • 29 May from 11:00-12:30: interoperability, safety and railway agency
  • 30 May from 10:45-12:30: opening domestic passenger market and governance

Europe's success in securing and upholding passenger rights is one of the resounding achievements of EU transport policy. The proposal clarifies key aspects of EU law and introduces new passenger rights where necessary.
 
An exchange of views with stakeholders will take place in the next TRAN meeting on 29.05.13 from 15:00-17:00 in JAN 6Q2.

Innovations include devices that can read on-board recording devices from a distance, will make it easier to enforce driving and rest times.

Liberalising rail services: balancing competition and quality of service

The need to agree on how to separate track from train operators and to balance growth, quality of service and working conditions were the main points raised by transport and tourism MEPs and experts at a hearing on the 4th railway package on Tuesday. Uniform rules on safety certification and interoperability will be key to creating a single EU rail area, MEPs agreed.

Greener and safer trucks debate with Siim Kallas turns into gigaliner discussion

Most of the new rules tabled by the Commission on truck weights and sizes were welcomed in a debate with Commissioner Siim Kallas on Tuesday. MEPs said these rules would help cut fuel consumption and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. But they remained divided over whether member states should be permitted to allow the use of longer and heavier vehicles (LHVs) in cross-border transport. At Parliament's request, conditions for using LHVs across borders are included in the new rules.

(a)    normele comune aplicabile transporturilor pe teritoriul Uniunii Europene,
(b)    stabilirea şi dezvoltarea de reţele transeuropene în sectorul infrastructurilor de transport,
(c)    furnizarea serviciilor de transport şi relaţiile cu ţările terţe în domeniul transporturilor,
(d)    securitatea transporturilor,
(e)    relaţiile cu organizaţiile internaţionale de transport;
 
(2)    serviciile poştale;
 
(3)    turismul.

Bine aţi venit pe site-ul Comisiei pentru transport şi turism. Veţi găsi aici informaţii privind comisia noastră, membrii săi şi activitatea pe care o desfăşurăm. Am onoarea de a fi preşedintele uneia dintre cele mai active şi mai importante comisii ale Parlamentului European.
 
Comisia noastră participă la procesul legislativ în cadrul procedurii de codecizie şi are mulţi ani de experienţă în ceea ce priveşte lucrul cu statele membre, fiind un partener egal în elaborarea legislaţiei din domeniul transportului, al politicii din domeniul turismului şi al politicilor legate de serviciile poştale.
 
Transportul face parte din viaţa de zi cu zi. Acesta este important nu doar pentru livrarea bunurilor şi serviciilor pentru industrie şi comerţ, ci şi pentru deplasarea persoanelor de la domiciliu la locul de muncă, la şcoală sau într-o vacanţă bine-meritată. Fără transport, societatea devine statică, comerţul se prăbuşeşte şi pierdem această interconexiune vitală. Avem cu toţii nevoie de transport în viaţa de zi cu zi. Comisia pe care o conduc a conştientizat de mult aceste aspecte şi a depus eforturi pentru a garanta că, în cadrul Uniunii, valorificăm pe deplin potenţialul transportului, nu doar pentru durabilitatea economică şi socială, ci şi pentru cea a mediului - deopotrivă de importantă.
 
Considerăm că, oricare ar fi modul de transport, acesta aduce o valoare adăugată societăţii şi fiecare persoană ar trebui să aibă acces la el.
