On Tuesday 28 November 2023, from 14:30 to 16:30, the ECON Committee held a public hearing on the Digital Euro. This public hearing took place in light of the legislative proposal on the establishment of a digital euro put forward by the European Commission on 28 June 2023 as part of the Single Currency Package, which also includes a proposal on the legal tender of euro cash.
On Tuesday, 24 October 2023, the ECON and FEMM Committees jointly organised a high-level event on “Women in Economics and Finance: Debate on the next challenges in the EU” in the context of the 2023 European Gender Equality Week.
On 26 April 2023, the Commission presented legislative proposals to implement a comprehensive reform of the EU’s economic governance rules. The central objective of these proposals is to strengthen public debt sustainability while promoting sustainable and inclusive growth in Member States through reforms and investment. The ECON Committee is now assessing the proposals by the Commission and working on its reports.
On 24 May 2023, the Commission adopted in the framework of its Retail Investment Strategy a proposal on retail investor protection rules and a second proposal modernising the PRIIPs key information document.
On Tuesday 30 May 2023, from 14:30 to 16:30, the ECON Committee held a public hearing on " EU Listing Act: Is the EU Listings Regime fit for purpose?".
On Monday 27 March 2023, from 16:30 to 18:30, the ECON Committee held a follow-up public hearing on "Energy derivatives markets, oversight challenges related to market integrity and financial stability risks". This public hearing contributed to understanding the current situation regarding the energy derivatives markets and potential actions needed at Union level to contain financial stability risks.
