On 15 July the Committee on Budgets will organise a public hearing on the topic of "the EU budget and SMEs". The hearing, which will be chaired by MEPs Paul Rübig (EPP) and Siegfried Muresan (EPP), will consist of two panel discussions.

The first session, entitled "EU financial support for SMEs: Lessons learnt", aims to assess achievements so far and obstacles to effective SME financing in the EU. In the second session, " A new approach to supporting start-ups: How can the EU budget do better?", speakers will focus on identifying ways to facilitate access to EU financing for higher-risk SME projects, including by young and female entrepreneurs.

Speakers include representatives of the European Commission, the EIB, EASME, UEAPME, Enterprise Ireland, EVCA and academia, as well as entrepreneurs and business incubators.
